From technological possibility to sustainable transformation
The Digital and AI Transformation Lab explores how digital and artificial intelligence technologies can be translated into meaningful organisational practice and sustainable societal value.
We work with researchers, organisations, practitioners, policymakers and students to understand how technologies move beyond experimentation and isolated pilots to become embedded, responsible and scalable forms of transformation.
Our focus
DAIT-Lab occupies the space between technological innovation and organisational transformation.
Technical capability alone does not create transformation. Organisations must determine where technologies can create value, how they will affect existing work and services, what capabilities and governance arrangements are required, and how innovations can be sustained and scaled.
Our work focuses on three connected areas:
| Explore | Operationalise | Sustain and scale |
|---|---|---|
| We help organisations explore how digital and AI technologies could support organisational, service and societal transformation.
This includes identifying opportunities, understanding organisational challenges, examining stakeholder needs and considering the wider implications of technology-enabled change. |
We investigate and support the process through which technologies become embedded in everyday organisational practice.
This includes changes to work processes, professional roles, organisational capabilities, governance, decision-making, partnerships and relationships with technology suppliers. |
We examine how promising technologies and pilot projects can develop into sustainable organisational capabilities and wider societal transformation.
This includes implementation, evaluation, organisational learning, responsible innovation and the conditions required to move beyond short-term experimentation. |
What we do
- Research digital and AI transformation: We conduct interdisciplinary research into the organisational, managerial and societal dimensions of digital and AI transformation.
- Work with organisations: We collaborate with public, private and third-sector organisations to explore, implement and evaluate technology-enabled transformation.
- Connect research and practice: We bring academics and practitioners together through seminars, roundtables, research projects and knowledge-exchange activities.
- Develop future transformation leaders: We involve students and early-career researchers in addressing real organisational challenges through the DAIT Challenge Studio and other research and educational activities.
- Build communities: We support thematic communities that connect researchers, practitioners and organisations around shared areas of interest.
